Berwick-upon-Tweed is the northernmost town in England situated 2½ miles south of the Scottish border. It is on Northumberland’s east coast at the mouth of the River Tweed and was originally founded as an Anglo-Saxon settlement. For over 400 years it was central to the border war between England and Scotland. It is now a traditional market town.
