A famous singer from the 80s hit the stage in South Shields on Sunday afternoon, but without the rest of the group she enjoyed global success with.
Following on from performances from the likes of Sigala and Jason Donovan over the last few weeks, there were more chart icons in attendance by the coast at Bents Park, as this year's South Tyneside free concerts continued with one which was also the main event of Pride in South Tyneside.
The event, headlined by Sister Sledge, got going with some great sets from local acts Channy, Shelly Stevens and the Bobby Dazzlers, before pop legend Deniece Pearson stepped out on stage in glorious sunshine to entertain a packed crowd. Denise, now 56, is famous around the world for being a member of Five Star, the group which featured her and four siblings and had smash hits with tracks like Rain or Shine, System Addict and The Slightest Touch, before being dropped by their label in the 90s.

The group returned to the music industry in 2002 as a trio, featuring Deniece, sister Lorraine and brother Steadman, with them going onto perform a string of shows, including taking part in the Here and Now Tour. Denise and Steadman then went onto perform as a duo at gigs in Butlins in 2008, before Deniece then joined the West End cast of Michael Jackson musical thriller.
Deniece also auditioned for The Voice UK in 2012, ending up on Tom Jones' team, before Five Star reunited as a four piece in 2015, with Deniece joined this time by Steadman, brother Delroy and sister Doris.
On Sunday in South Shields, Deniece delighted the tens of thousands of people who flocked to Bents Park, with a set that included all the Five Star classics, opening with Can't Wait Another Minute.
