ITV viewers can look forward to a trip down memory lane this week as the well-loved crime drama has secured the 9pm slot.
While these are indeed repeats, fans will relish the chance to see their favourite characters once more, such as Paul Kaye's portrayal of Dr Malcolm.
Paul Kaye, who first gained fame in the '90s as the satirical journalist Dennis Pennis, rapidly became a fan-favourite with his entrance into the Vera ensemble, engaging in sharp-witted exchanges with Brenda Blethyn's character on the show.
Paul Kaye made his entrance to Vera's forensics team back in 2019 and concluded his stint after making his mark in 14 episodes, with his last appearance gracing our screens in January 2023.
In that final January 2023 episode, audiences discovered Dr Malcolm's departure was due to a new job opportunity, leading him away from the Northumberland & City Police team, reports the Express.
The announcement of Paul's exit came directly from Brenda Blethyn, who told us at the time: "We say goodbye to the wonderful Paul Kaye as pathologist Dr Malcolm Donahue in the third new film Against The Tide.
"Paul is one of the most positive people I know. No matter what the circumstances he'll find something positive to say.
"There was total respect between Vera and Malcolm along with some very dry humour from him. The relationship between Vera and Malcolm has been interesting to play."
Following his departure from the ITV drama, Paul secured a role in theatre. In March last year, he was announced to star in the Olivier Award-winning play The Pillowman, alongside Lily Allen and Steve Pemberton, known for Benidorm and League of Gentlemen.
As per IMBD, the actor, renowned for his roles in Game of Thrones and The Stranger, has also featured in Sexy Beast, Shardlake, and Trying since his Vera exit.
Vera series 11, episode five, will air at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
