Muffin, Sid and Tilly are just some of the dogs looking for loving homes after a lonely stay in kennels.
Some pets living in these shelters have spent months, and sometimes years, waiting for an owner to give them the happy comfortable life they deserve.
Tilly and North are some of the longest-serving residents at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter at the moment and staff would love for them to find their happy ever after.
Taking on a pet is a big commitment, so it is important to do your research before adopting an animal. But for those who are able to commit to offering a pet a home can receive a lifetime of love in return.

Here are the adorable dogs who are currently looking for their forever homes in the North East.
Ebby
Ebby is a two-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who arrived at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter as a very timid girl. But staff say she has progressed through her journey in the shelter and has really come out of her shell, showing them the sweet loving girl she is.
Ebby loves to play with toys, and loves to play with her human friends. However, she's not always great at giving her toys up and will often offer you one to play with together, only to run away with it if you reach for it. She enjoys her cheeky little game of chase, she is also happy chewing her toy in her own little world.
Ebby can be insecure and we would love to see her go to a home with an owner who is happy to work on her confidence and encouraging her to open up a little more.
Ebby is a strong girl and can pull. Typical of her breed she is strong willed, so will need a strong owner who is comfortable handling her on the lead. She is looking for an adult only home and to be the only animal in the home.
Staff know that watching Ebby learn and grow as she settles into her new world will be a wonderfully rewarding experience to the family lucky enough to rehome her.

North is a one-year-old XL Bully. Staff at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter say North is a big strong lad who is extremely playful and energetic. His owners will need to be strong and fit to keep up with North and be able to manage him on walks whilst he learns how to walk nicely on a leash.
North loves meeting other dogs and would benefit from regular socialisations, but while he still needs a lot of training, he would be better as the only dog in the home to help him settle and focus.
He is very food driven and is a true people pleaser so training with him shouldn't be too difficult. However, he is still a young and stubborn Bully so may provide some challenges.
North does seem to struggle with separation anxiety and has been destructive when left alone. His new family will need to be patient and prepared to dedicate a lot of time to helping him through this.

Tilly is a three-year-old Lurcher. Staff at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter say that when Tilly first arrived at the care she was a very scared and timid girl and staff struggled to get near her.
However, she has grown into a loving and affectionate girl whilst at the centre, which staff say has been an absolute pleasure and delight.
Tilly can still be a little wary of strangers, but she soon comes out of her shell and will be asking for cuddles and giving paw. She is a very sweet and special girl who deserves a home focussed on helping her continue to build her confidence allowing her to fully enjoy and engage with the world around her.
Tilly has recently enjoyed a foster stay but, sadly, it did not work out so she came back to the centre. She was well behaved during her foster, though nervous and reactive to other dogs in the area to begin with, the family did find she became more manageable as they got to know her more.
Staff believe that Tilly will be a very rewarding dog to work with. She has come on so far at the centre and staff feel she will blossom when in a loving family home and be a wonderful companion.
Tilly is looking for an adult only home where she will be the only animal in the home.
