More than 430 new North East jobs are being created by delivery giant Evri as part of huge expansion plans across the UK.
The business – the country’s biggest dedicated parcel delivery company – has unveiled plans to recruit 8,000 additional couriers across the UK this year as it gears up to take on record parcel volumes. Evri bosses said they are on the hunt for 439 couriers to join the company within the North East area on the back of booming online delivery numbers.
The drive to take on new starters comes as parcel volumes overtake those seen during the pandemic, buoyed by high street retailers, fast-growing new traders and pre-loved platforms.

Martijn De Lange, chief executive of Evri, said: “We know that service, reliability and quality are critical factors for our clients and consumers. We have an industry-leading 99% on-time delivery rate and our couriers have received more than 3 million 5-star reviews on Trustpilot and customers using our own app rate their courier 4.7 out of 5 on average.
“New client wins, and increased parcel volumes are proof of the trust customers have in our service and biggest-ever recruitment drive promises to deliver another record year.”
The new recruitment drive means Evri’s total self-employed courier workforce will reach 28,000 and it currently delivers around four million parcels on its busiest days. As well as launching a search for new staff, Evri has also invested into customer service, with new features launching a chatbot and callback feature to deliver a response in 24 hours or less.
Evri will start training and onboarding new couriers from July, a month earlier than last year. Couriers can apply by attending an introductory call with the local community delivery manager before starting training.
The firm said couriers typically earn around £16.50 per hour and deliver in their local area. Last week it was announced that Leeds based Evri is set to be acquired by Apollo Global Management, in a deal worth £2.7bn.
