Gabby Logan declared she 'couldn't bear' to watch the Olympics coverage hosted by her colleagues on Monday, as dramatic scenes played out in Paris and China let the gold medal slip away from them in the men' team gymnastics
The red hot favourites to win, the Chinese athletes were in fine form at the Bercy Arena to take a commanding lead ahead of rivals Japan, USA and Great Britain. At one point it looked like hotly tipped Japan might not even get on the podium, before a late surge put them right in contention.
The last of six rotations saw both the Chinese and Japanese compete on the high bar, and, while things went for Japan, disaster struck for China when two of their star gymnasts faltered. Firstly, veteran Xiao Ruoteng fell onto his knees as he attempted to land his dismount, before things went from bad to worse, when teammate Su Weide fell twice in the same routine, in his first ever Olympics.

The errors lad to significant deductions in China's scores and, having been three points ahead of Japan earlier in the final, they ended up losing out on the gold to their rivals. Cameras followed Weide as he stepped off the mat, with him looking devastated as his shell shocked peers looked on, rather than stepping into console him.
That didn't go un-noticed by off duty BBC star Gabby who was watching it all unfold on TV. Like many other viewers, she rushed to social media to react to what she was seeing on screen and took to X to write: "The poor Chinese gymnast who fell twice from high bar. His team mates have deserted him. He’s bereft. I can’t bear it. He might have just lost them gold."
Replying to her, one follower commented: "You're not alone, Gabby. I felt exactly the same. I remarked to my husband at the awful way his trainers and the other team members had isolated him" as another responded: "You win together you learn together. His team mates are out of order."
