Grainger Market
Newcastle's grand covered market was built in 1835 and originally had a meat market in one half and a vegetable market in the other. It was designed by architect John Dobson and named after Richard Grainger who redeveloped much of the city at that time. The meat and veg is still on sale but the market now houses all kinds of stores and stalls whether you want a potted plant, muesli by the pound, party favours or to visit Marks & Spencer's original Penny Bazaar.
