After racegoers were left wondering what the outcome was, we're happy to report that a couple are now happily engaged, following a fly past proposal at Ladies Day at the weekend.
As it always does, Ladies Day brought out some serious fashion to Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday, with the early rain showers doing little to quash people's efforts when it came to dressing to the nines for the annual event. Ladies, lads and couples all turned on the style as they headed to have a flutter, with the afternoon's Style Awards crowning Eilish Waters from Hexham as 2024's Best Dressed.
Gainford Group's Ladies Day featured a full card of racing and it was just as one of the races was coming to an end, when a plane flew over the Gosforth course, carrying a banner with the words ''I love you Jeanette. Marry Me, Gav.'

There were shouts from the crowd as the plane went over but, by the end of the day, nobody knew if Jeanette had said yes or not as complete strangers were desperate to find out what her answer was. Well, on Monday night, Newcastle Racecourse provided a major update, sharing a photo of Gav and Jeanette and writing: 'We can now confirm Jeanette said YES. Congratulations Jeanette and Gav"
Comments quickly flooded in on the post, with someone who saw it happen on Saturday replying: "Aww congratulations to you both, I saw the plane flying over the racecourse.. what a proposal!" A second responded: "Brilliant. Congratulations guys - what a proposal" as another follower of the Racecourse page wrote: "Congratulations to you both. We loved the proposal plane."
