A police cordon was in place on a Newcastle street this evening after a man became involved in a rooftop stand-off with officers.
Shortly after 5.40pm this evening, police attended a house on Henlow Road, in Lemington, as part of their enquiries to locate a wanted person. Northumbria Police confirmed that on arrival a man from inside the property climbed onto the roof and was throwing roof tiles while refusing to come down.
Henlow Road was cordoned off as a result of the incident and the man has since been brought to safety and placed under arrest.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after 5.40pm today (Friday), officers attended an address on Henlow Road in Lemington as part of enquiries to locate a wanted person. Upon arrival, a man from inside had climbed onto the roof of the property and refused to come down, and was throwing roof tiles.
"A small cordon was put in place while officers engaged with the man in question, and worked to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. The man was later brought to safety and placed under arrest. We would like to thank everybody for their support and cooperation, including members of the public in the area."
