The North East has a busy road and public transport network connecting Newcastle with Sunderland and Teesside to the south, and Northumberland and Scotland to the north.
Thousands of car journeys are made on the region's roads every day, while the Tyne & Wear Metro service operated by Nexus caters for thousands of commuters across Tyneside and Wearside.
Motorways like the A1M and major roads such as the A19, A69, A189 Spine Road and A1068 Coast Road are vital routes through the region, along with the many main roads that connect them throughout Newcastle, Gateshead, North and South Tyneside.
Routes across the River Tyne can be particularly congested, with the Tyne Bridge, Redheugh Bridge, Swing Bridge and Scotswood Bridge serving Newcastle city centre, and the Blaydon Bridge over the A1 serving Gateshead and connecting North Tyneside to the A1 motorway and Metrocentre.
The Tyne Tunnel links North and South Tyneside via a toll route served by the recently revamped Silverlink interchange, while the Shields Ferry, also operated by Nexus, also provides a service between North and South Shields.
We run live blogs of traffic and travel incidents in our region every day, available at the top of this dedicated page.
Our constantly updated service gives you live information on incidents, crashes and roadworks affecting North East roads 24 hours a day, complete with live images from the motorway cameras at those spots.
The city is also served by Newcastle Central Station with LNER running daily services to and from London Kings Cross and Scotland.
And the North East's extensive bus network is the most used of all the region's transport services.
If there's a problem with any of the public transport services that you use, you'll see live information about it below.
