It's the show that's had many viewers hooked every night for close to two months and on Monday night, Love Island crowned its winners. And, in a shock result it was Mimi and Josh, not red hot favourites Nicole and Ciaran who won.
Since relaunching as Love Island in 2015, the ITV dating programme has been a huge ratings hit for the broadcaster. Originally hosted by late TV star Caroline Flack, Love Island is one of those shows that is always a top trend on social media, as viewers make their feelings known and, on Monday night, the four remaining couples left in the villa this summer battled it out for a £50,000 prize.
While not regarded as a stellar years, in the eyes of die hard Love Island fans, the new series has definitely thrown up a few surprises, not least the early arrival of first bombshell, TOWIE favourite Joey Essex and appearances from guest stars Eve and Jess Glynne.
After a lot of recouplings, drama and voting, just Nicole and Ciaran, Matilda and Sean, Mimi and Josh and Jessica and Ayo were left in the running and bookies were convinced it would be long standing frontrunners Nicole and Ciaran who took home the cash prize, as Jessica and Ayo went into the finale as the outsiders.
However, in a huge shock result, after Jess and Ayo finished fourth and Matilda and Sean finished third, it ended up being Mimi and Josh who topped the public vote, with the couple looking in shock as host Maya Jama called their names.
