Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter certainly raised a few eyebrows on ITV when she boldly admitted to having had the desire to cheat on her ex-partner.
Janet, the vivacious 77 year old, was back on the hit daytime show this Monday, joining fellow stars Judi Love, Denise Welch, and Sunetra Sarker. As the ladies delved deep into the topic of relationship breaks, Janet opened up about her past romantic entanglements.
She disclosed: "Like I've said many times, I've always been the one to behave badly and got found out. And then I was offered the chance to make a fresh start, by the other person very generously saying they'll take me back and we can work at it again and I've always said 'no thanks', because quite frankly.."
Denise promptly chimed in stating: "You wanted to cheat on them in the first place!" With no hesitation, Janet promptly agreed: "Yes I wanted to cheat and you know there's no going back, so I never go back."
Reflecting upon a dramatic moment from her past, Janet recalled how she had been caught inflagrante with another man, reports the Mirror. She detailed: "I was meeting my secret lover in a restaurant but unfortunately I told my husband I was working the weekend up North.
"And I went in and there was my boyfriend waiting at the bar and I rushed in swung my arms around his neck and as I looked over his shoulder I saw my husband."
Audience members were audibly shocked by Janet's candid recounting, but reactions among the home viewers were not unanimously favourable.
One viewer expressed: "Why do the panel and audience all laugh when #Janet talks about all the times she's cheated on her husbands/partners. If this was a man doing this, there would be uproar. I'm saying this as a woman. Double standards."
Another viewer chimed in: "We've heard all these stories umpteen times before." This comment was accompanied by a gif of a man gently hitting a hammer on his head.
Currently, Janet is in a long-term relationship with Peter Spanton. However, before this, Janet has been married four times.
In a previous interview with The Guardian, she revealed: "I've been married four times and lived with a lot of blokes I know how men's minds work. What have all the men I've been with got in common? They're all pathetically grateful," she stated candidly.
