A visibly disappointed Mark Foster spoke for everyone watching the Olympics at home on Tuesday night, when he tried to get Clare Balding to stay on air to allow viewers to see an interview with Team GB's gold medal winning relay team, only for the live broadcast to come to an abrupt end, in order for the News to air.
As he has done for many Games now, former Olympian Mark is back pundit duty for the BBC for the 2024 event and, after sitting alongside them for the opening days of sporting action, was in the studio with host Clare and former Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington for another big night in the pool at the Aquatics Centre.
Having watched Daniel Wiffen clinch a historic gold for Ireland in the 800m, the tro then had one of the best seats in the house to see Team G try and defend their 200m freestyle relay title from Tokyo, as James Guy, Tom Dean, Matt Richards and Duncan Scott looked to see off competition from USA and Australia.

Favourites to win the race, the Team GB quarter delivered the goods to take gold once again, as Clare, Rebecca and Mark cheered them onto victory from the BBC set. The race happened at around 9.15pm UK time, with 45 minutes of the BBC Olympic broadcast left to go. As soon as they were out of the pool, the British swimmers were whisked away for their medal ceremony, before viewers at home were then shown highlights f Andy Murray and Dan Evans' doubles match in the tennis.
And, by the time cameras then returned to Clare, Mark and Rebecca in the studio, the clock was ticking towards 10pm, as viewers hoped they'd get to see the 200m champions interviewed by Sharron Davies. Sadly, rather than allow the News to air a few minutes later, Clare had to wrap up proceedings, telling fans they'd have to watch a highlights show later on to catch the interview.
Mark then clocked the team heading over towards Sharron and stepped into ask if it would be possible to stay on air so viewers could see it, only for Clare to again tell him while she 'wished they could stay on air' everyone need to tune into the highlights for the interview.
It didn't take long for complaints to come in on X, with one disgruntled viewer writing: "Disgusted that #BBCOlympics couldn't delay the news to interview #TeamGB on the historic win" as a second reacted: "When #bbcolympics get it right their coverage is unrivalled. Great commentary tonight but one of the worst produced live broadcasts I've seen in over 30 years"
