The most instagrammable castles in the UK - and six are in the North East
In a poll conducted by Langley Castle, Edinburgh Castle was voted the most Instagrammable castle in the UK while North East favourites weren't far behind.
A list of the 100 most Instagrammable castles in the UK has been unveiled with two entries from Northumberland in the top 20.
The list judges castles by the amount of hashtags bearing their name, Edinburgh Castle was the most popular on the social networking platform. The North East was also well represented on the list with six castles making the top 100.
Though Bamburgh, Alnwick, and Chillingham made the list there were a few notable castles in our region that surprisingly missed out!
Here are the six castles included in the list compiled by Langley Castle, as well as some that will feel hard done by missing out.
Bamburgh Castle
With 55,647 hashtags, the former seat of the Kingdom of Northumbria is the most Instagrammed castle in the region and 14th most in the UK.

Just one place behind is the current seat of the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland, Alnwick Castle, with 52,259 hashtags.

The coastal fortress and former monastery at the mouth of the River Tyne was 39th on the list, with 10,920 hashtags.

The imposing medieval Raby Castle, which is surrounded by a deer park, was 48th on the list with 9,103 hashtags.
