Road closures on the Quayside are now in place for the rest of this week - due to the Red Bull Tyne Ride motorcycle event.
The event will take place on Saturday August 3 from 1.30pm, but closures are needed between July 30 and August 4 to allow for set-up and closing down. The closures see the Quaysie closed from the Sandhill junction to the Milk Market.
There are also parking restrictions in place with some spaces within the closure area temporarily withdrawn - including the bays at the Guildhall car park. The Newcastle City Council website lists the closures as: "30 July to 4 August – Red Bull Bike Event – Quayside closed from Sandhill junction to Milk Market".
The Red Bull Tyne Ride is taking place for the first time and will see a range of top motorcyclists involved. On the Red Bull website, this is how the event is described: "Red Bull Tyne Ride is a head-to-head motorcycle event taking place on Newcastle’s iconic Quayside.
"In collaboration with SuperEnduro World Champion, Billy Bolt, the unique course takes inspiration from motocross, enduro, mountain biking, BMX, and the wider world of action sports – resulting in the most creative, challenging head-to-head motorcycle competition in the world."
The latest closure comes as the ongoing structural work on the Tyne Bridge itself continues. There will be one lane closed on the bridge all the way through to April 4 2025, with further work taking place in the following years.
