Sir Bobby Robson
Perhaps closer to the hearts of Geordies more than any other local icon, Sir Bobby Robson's legacy is etched in Tyneside’s football culture. He managed seven European teams and the England national team. He was at the helm of Newcastle United between 1999 and 2004. Sir bobby received his fifth cancer diagnosis in 2007, and died at home in July 2009.
