It's nearly 10 years ago now since Newcastle United fan favourite Nolberto Solano had a restaurant named after him. Well now the same premises that was home to the city's first ever Peruvian eatery looks completely different, with it being one of the most in demand Sunday dinner hotspots in town.
A trio of North East owners transformed the former Escobars restaurant at Amen Corner in Newcastle city centre in a £100,000 refurbishment scheme to create Solano’s in the summer of 2015, with much loved NUFC winger Nobby heading back to Tyneside for the official launch.
A venue that broke new ground for Newcastle, with a menu totally different to any other restaurant in the area, Solano's scored well when ChronicleLive went to review it a few months after opening; but, sadly, the popularity of Solanos dwindled and, just two years later, plans were made to turn it into Bit on the Side, a more laid back bar from the team behind The Empress next door.

More recently, the Amen Corner building has been taken over by Missy Milieu's, a cocktail bar and bistro, which opened to great interest in 2022, only to then shut its doors within a year. Well now, the premises have had another transformation; this time to become Hula Co, a Hawaiian bar and restaurant which opened its doors in the spring.
Hula's food menu includes tacos, poke bowls, nachos, charcoal BBQ and curries, while its cocktail offerings, which are always 2 for 1 include Frozen Daiquris, Mai-Tais, Hula, from the same team behind successful Bigg Market haunt Twenty Twenty, also offers bottomless bunch, with the option of free flowing cocktails, prosecco or Bud, along with a brunch dish such as a poke bowl, curry or tacos and sharing nachos.
But, it's Hula's Hawaiian take on a Sunday dinner which has really got people talking on social media. The pictures of the Hawaiian BBQ roast look amazing and positive feedback has been flooding in from those who've tried it so far.
Reacting to photos of a Hula Sunday dinner on Instagram, one follower responded: "That looks like a banging roast" with a second commenting: "Looks amazing"
