Sunderland are reported to be one of a number of clubs looking to capitalise on French club Bordeaux’s shock bankruptcy.
According to Slovenian outlet Planet Nogomet, the Black Cats are interested in making a move for Slovenian striker Zan Vipotnik.
Whoever does end up winning his services, with Hajduk Split, FC Twente and VFL Bochum named as other interested parties from across Europe, the recipient club would be signing the player on a free transfer as his contract with the ex-Ligue 2 team was torn up after the club went out of business.
The Slovenia international will be on the hunt for a new place to call home, therefore, with Sunderland hopeful he will pick England over the array of potential destinations he has the choice of.

With Alexandre Mendy’s move to the Stadium of Light stuck on hold the Black Cats might be tempted to for an easier target, in the main because of the 22-year-old’s status as a free agent.
Starring for Bordeaux before their recent demise, Vipotnik has built up a solid reputation and one that would suit Sunderland.
Head coach Regis Le Bris clearly is keen to bring players in from his native country given his knowledge of the game there when he was manager of FC Lorient.
Vipotnik scored 10 goals last season in all competitions for his now-defunct club, taking his overall career goal tally to 44 from 122 games playing, starting out in his home country of Slovenia before moving further afield.
Vipotnik could well excel playing in a poachers’ role up front ahead of the likes of Nazariy Rusyn, who only scored twice last term which was a disappointing return in a team that generally lacked goals, especially towards the end of the Championship campaign.
Whether a player like Vipotnik would shine at Sunderland depends on whether the club are able to keep Jack Clarke who was a prolific creator of goals last season.
Meanwhile, Mendy’s 22 goals in Ligue 2 would suggest he would be perfect for Sunderland but with his deal stalling, going for Vipotnik could prove to be the more sensible option as Sunderland look to bolster their strikeforc
