Police have descended on a residential street in Sunderland as part of an ongoing investigation.
Northumbria Police officers can be seen on Wear Street, in South Hylton, today with multiple police vehicles in attendance.
The Northumbria Police Marine Unit is also believed to be at the scene.

Investigation launched after suspected human remains found on riverbank
Police descended on a Sunderland street after suspected human remains were found on a river bank.
Northumbria Police were called to Wear Street in South Hylton on Wednesday at around 10am after the discovery was made. A number of police cars and Northumbria Police Marine Unit were in attendance.
Officers could also be seen guarding an area of the riverbank as an investigation takes place.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said:
“At around 10.05am today (Wednesday), we received a report of suspected human remains having been discovered on the riverbank near to Wear Street in South Hylton.
“Emergency services are currently in attendance at the scene to carry out enquiries.”
