Doing the weekly food shop certainly isn't cheap, with prices of items continuing to increase. The nation is feeling the crunch in their bank balances due to the cost-of-living crisis, prompting people across the country to find ways to stretch every pound spent on grocery shopping and reduce wastage.
With that in mind, grocery behemoth Tesco has offered valuable advice regarding one particular food item in a way that could positively impact your wallet as well as reduce waste.
In a bid to keep us from tossing culinary staples into the dustbin prematurely, the supermarket giant has shared some handy advice on its website. Today's focus is bananas, a popular quick snack that often suffers an untimely end due to unsightly browning or mushiness, according to the Express.

However, Tesco has a genius solution: freeze those bananas to savour at a later date!
"Using your freezer for just ice cubes and a packet of frozen peas? Wondering whether you can freeze milk? ", says Tesco on its website, adding: "Freezers are the most efficient when they are full, so make the most of the space to prevent food waste and have ingredients ready to go. From milk and cheese to veg and rice, your freezer can do it all! ", reports Wales Online.
When it comes to ripe bananas, Tesco recommends peeling them before putting them in the freezer either whole or sliced up. When you're ready to use them, they can be taken straight from the freezer and are perfect for adding to smoothies.
Remember, frozen bananas can be a fantastic ingredient for homemade ice cream. So if you're looking for a tasty way to beat the heat, this fruit has got you covered.
