Police have issued an appeal after a shocking assault on board a train from Edinburgh to Newcastle.

A man was punched repeatedly in the face and knocked unconscious, suffering a broken eye socket, at around 4pm on the 2.10pm train from Edinburgh Waverley to Newcastle Central Station on July 5.

British Transport Police detectives believe that the man in the CCTV image may have information which could help with their investigation.

BTP have urged anyone who recognises the man to contact them by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 467 of July 4.
